Volunteer Code of Conduct
The purpose of this Volunteer Code of Conduct is to provide both volunteers and participants with clear guidelines to ensure a fun and safe environment for everyone involved. While appropriate actions are often intuitive, it can sometimes be harder than it sounds to be likable and friendly while maintaining necessary boundaries.
As a volunteer you are expected to adhere to the following guidelines:
- Volunteers will not swear, use derogatory language, or discuss inappropriate topics around or with participants.
- All conduct with participants should place the safety and health of the participant first.
- Volunteers will not sit in or use participants’ wheelchairs or equipment.
- Volunteers will not be alone with participants.
- Volunteers should at all times act as a positive role model for participants.
- No alcohol, tobacco or other drug use is permitted at Seattle Adaptive Sports functions.
- Please refrain from hugging or any physical contact that could be misconstrued as inappropriate. High fives and fist pounds are a great way to greet and congratulate participants.
- You may be asked to leave if your behavior or actions are not deemed to be in the best interest of Seattle Adaptive Sports programs or athletes. Such decision shall be at the sole discretion of the event leaders.
