Amarillo Gun Club Rules
- Everyone on or around the firing positions must have safety glasses, approved sunglasses and hearing protection, this includes spectators if they are on or near the firing line.
- Only shot sizes 7-1/2, 8, 8-1/2 or 9 are permitted. Only 2-3/4" shells in 12ga and 20ga. No more than 3-1/4 dram loads for shotshells. No 3" Magnum shells are permitted except for .410.
- No Tactical, or Military style shotguns are allowed. No Barrels shorter than 22" are allowed. Youth sized guns are allowed if approved by the Board.
- No Pistols or Rifles are to be shot at Amarillo Gun Club at any time. This is a shotgun only clay target facility.
- No Black Powder Shotguns of any type are allowed. This is a safety issue and also a courtesy issue to your fellow shooters as the powder cloud takes significant time to dissipate.
- Your firearm must be cased and unloaded when you arrive to the gun club.
- Always ensure you have the correct gauge shells for your gun, 12ga, 20ga, 28ga, etc.
- Load 1 shell for Singles and 2 for Doubles Only. At Skeet Station 8 only load 1 shell at a time. Do not ever put more than 2 shells in a gun.
- Always keep your gun pointed downrange. Never point a gun, even an unloaded gun, at anyone else.
- Keep your finger off the trigger until you are on station and ready to call for the target.
- All guns are to be open and completely empty when changing stations. Semi Autos and Pumps will have actions open. Over Unders and Side by Sides will be broken open anytime they are not on station or in a rack.
- If you encounter a strange sounding load with less than normal powder change, unload your gun, check the barrel for a stuck wad in the barrel. A barrel obstruction can have deadly consequences. Double check to be safe.
- If a shell does not fire when the trigger is pulled, hold your firearm pointed downrange for at least 20 seconds in case you have a slow burn or faulty primer. Unload your gun, then re-load with a fresh shell and fire again.
- Presence of an ORANGE CONE on the top of a trap house indicates that a person is in the house loading targets. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES step onto the field or begin to shoot. All shooters should remain behind the field and wait for the employee to complete the loading process and exit the trap house.
- Be respectful of your fellow shooters; refrain from loud talking or activity that may cause a shooter to lose concentration.
- Drugs and Alcohol are not allowed on the fields at any time. You may not shoot after you have consumed alcohol or drugs. If you are caught with alcohol on the fields or it is confirmed that you shot after drinking alcohol or taking drugs you will be escorted from the club and you my be permanently banned upon investigation by the Board of Directors. Alcohol and Guns Do Not Mix.
- The Safety on your gun is mechanical and can fail. The only safe gun is an unloaded gun. All guns being carried to and from the fields will be open and empty at all times.
- The electronic voicecalls (Canterburies) must be turned off when not shooting. They are prone to wasting targets if too much noise is picked up by the microphones. If you need to talk to your fellow shooters, i.e. giving instructions, giving lessons, etc. please put the trap controller in manual pull mode and do not use the voice release.
- If you encounter any firearm malfunction, immediately bring your firearm to the office and let a member of staff look at it for you. There are plenty of members with experience to help you if you have trouble with your firearm.
- Every shooter at Amarillo Gun Club is expected to behave in a safe and courteous manner to their fellow shooters and to all employees of the club. Practice common sense, gun safety, and good sportsmanship at all times.
- Everyone at Amarillo Gun Club has a responsibility to stop and to report any unsafe activity immediately. See It, Stop It, Report It.
- Private Carts, Golf Carts, Rangers, etc. are allowed at AGC, however, anyone driving a cart must beat least 16 years of age with a valid driver's license. Those under 16 are not allowed to drive a cart on Club property.
