Denali Backcountry Adventures is first and foremost an experience in community living and teamwork.
Therefore, it is important that students are ready to be active and engaged members of the group. Keep in mind
that everyone is coming to the trip with different expectations, motivations, doubts, and varying levels of
physical and mental strength. This Code of Conduct sets forward certain group expectations and is intended to
serve as a step toward a unified team.
Students – please read this form carefully and sign where indicated to show you understand the information
and are committed to the experience.
Behavior Expectations:
Denali Backcountry Adventures is a group experience and its success is dependent upon cooperation and
teamwork between students and instructors. Please initial below after reading the following behavior
expectations:
- I will follow all rules and instructions set by my leaders and other authorities.
- I will show respect for my peers by appreciating their strengths and not faulting their differences.
- I understand that this is a group experience and I am ready to be an active, supportive team member.
- I understand I am hiking and camping in Denali National Park and will follow proper backcountry
management protocols set forth by instructors and park staff.
Environmental Responsibility:
Denali Backcountry Adventures is a unique opportunity. This protected subarctic ecosystem provides many with
the opportunity to experience untrammeled wilderness firsthand. Generations before us have worked to
preserve this landscape for us, it is now our turn to enjoy it and preserve it for future visitors. I have read and
understand the principles of Leave No Trace (included in the DBA Detailed Program Information document) and
will do my best to follow and uphold them throughout Denali Backcountry Adventures.
Commitment to Preparedness:
One of the primary goals of Denali Backcountry Adventures is to teach students to live comfortably and safely in
the backcountry. Take an active role in your own safety and comfort by understanding why and when you need
the items listed. Below are some other ways to improve your experience:
- Be self-aware: know and communicate your own needs, learn from your experience, understand how your
actions and words affect the group
- Show good judgment: make conservative decisions in new terrain, think about potential hazards and avoid
them, choose daily gear and food wisely, understand your limits
- Group goals guide actions: demonstrate cooperation, keep yourself and peers motivated toward common
goals, embrace group goals as your own
I have read and agree to follow this Code of Conduct, and to accept responsibility for my actions. I understand
that a violation of this Code of Conduct will result in disciplinary action, which may include removal from the
program.
